Chances are you’ve had a headache. After living in Germany for over a decade I’ve become very reserved about using pain relievers. I would rather address the natural signs my body is giving me than cover them up with drugs. For a headache I tend to rather resort to laying down and resting, but this isn’t always a possibility. I’ve been toying with the idea of using essential oils as an alternative to treat headaches and migraines and the studies look good.

In this article we will explore how essential oils can help with headaches. But to learn more about all the OTHER different ways you can use essential oils and herbs for health check out this great deal from Ultimate bundles. They are having a FLASH SALE on December 27th to 28th on the Herbs and Essential Oil Super Bundle 2018. That means the regular priced bundle which is normally $47 will be on sale for $29 but only ONE DAY ONLY

Why use Essential Oil for Headaches?

Especially if you get headaches on a regular basis, you may run into some nasty side effects using prescription medication. The warnings range from stomach bleeding to kidney failure.  What a great reason to try out a different natural method that can provide relief and also smell beautifully.

Essential oils are another great option to deal with headaches brought on by alcohol consumption. One giant danger people don’t necessarily think of when taking pain relievers is the consumption of alcohol. Did you know that taking even taking a small amount of Tylenol (or Aceteminophen) and alcohol can raise your risk of kidney disease by a giant 123%? According to Web MD even light amounts of alcohol with Aceteminophen can cause horrible effects.  Even taking Ibuprofen or Advil with alcohol has the risk of causing stomach bleeding (yuck).

5 Headache Relieving Essential Oils

Lavender Oil:

Not only is lavender a natural relaxant, but it can also help with headaches. In this study it was concluded that when sufferers of migraines inhaled Lavender Oil for 15 minutes, they experienced either complete or partial relief of their headaches.

Rosemary Oil:

Rosemary is a natural anti-inflammatory.  According to DrAxe.com it is stress reducing, and can help with headaches caused by emotional triggers. Rosemary oil can be taken internally by using one drop in tea, water, or soup. Look below for instructions on topical use.

Eucalyptus Oil:

This oil is great for clearing out your congested sinus and nasal airways. Which works especially well when you’re suffering from a headache brought on by sinus pressure. It also reduces inflammation and pain. It has also been widely used as a folk medicine to treat upper respiratory infections, gastritis, and diabetes

Ginger Oil

Known for it’s adaptogenic properties, Ginger can help protect you from physical, emotional, and biological stressors. What’s adaptogenic you may be wondering? It basically means an herb or non – toxic substance that can increase the body’s ability to resist the damaging effects of stress and promote or restore normal physiological functioning. If you apply diluted ginger topically onto sore muscles, you will experience a warm, soothing relief.  Think about rubbing it onto problem areas like the neck, or onto the back when there is tension that can cause headaches.

How to use Essential Oils for Relief of Migraines and Headaches

Topically : The chosen oil should be diluted with a carrier oil. Diluted oil can be applied to the temples, inhaled for aromatherapy. You can also use 1-2 drops of your chosen oil on a warm compress on the back of your neck or back.

Ingested: Some oils can be ingested (please refer to your product instructions if you’re unsure.) . But remember, a little goes a long way. One to two drops in tea, soup, or water suffice, and stop after a few weeks to give the body a break.

When Our Baby Almost Died Because We Listened to God

A few years ago our family lead an outreach to Liberia, Africa with Youth with a Mission. We then only had two kiddos, both under the age of two. Perhaps many people would think of it as irresponsible of us to pack up our little family and lead a team of young adults...
